What is it that I love more? What is right for me, or right for the body politic? Pagan Friendship or Christian Love? It’s hard to argue against the latter, but looking at how Libanius wrote his letters, his enduring loyalty, and the passion and emotion he offered, and then looking at Cicero’s friendship with Atticus, a proper friendship is a proper romance of its own.
Their friendship of Cicero & Atticus was legendary, we don’t have legendary friendships anymore. We have the monotony of love, improperly done. And even love lost its luster upon abuse it seems.
It’s hard to argue against the passion of christ though. Jesus taught us how to love, and the followers of Christ were the only people generous enough to let foreigners into their land. The same foreigners who then would turn on them and hate them, and not appreciate the gesture, never returning this love, yet the secular people of christ keep trying to love, they never stopped loving, the empire is collapsing, and yet they still love their oppressor, They call it progressivism, but I call it the passion of christ.
And “Such Was The Passion of Christ”.
It’s not a simple answer which virtue is for me, I guess we could have both, but then I take the names of the virtues in vain, as if we could just have both. I cannot commit. I cannot commit…. I am unable to commit. I don’t know which is right for me or right for the body public.
